The exhibition at the Red Dot Design Museum
The Red Dot Design Museum in Essen is one of the most important places for contemporary product and industrial design.
It is based on the Red Dot Design Award, one of the most internationally renowned design competitions, which has been honoring products that impress with innovation, quality and design strength every year for decades. Winning works are presented in the museum on a permanent or temporary basis and allow the public to experience the diversity of design achievements.
The museum is housed on the site of the former Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and landmark of industrial culture. The central boiler house, which now houses the exhibition rooms, was redesigned by star architect Sir Norman Foster. The combination of industrial substance and modern architecture has created a unique place where history and contemporary design meet in an exciting way.

The exhibitions in the Red Dot Design Museums in Essen and Singapore are characterized by their special form of presentation: Instead of being behind glass, many exhibits are freely accessible and can be viewed up close. Visitors move through several floors with over 2,000 exhibits from a wide range of product areas - from furniture and lighting to technical devices and everyday objects. For design enthusiasts, a visit is worthwhile in more ways than one: in addition to the exhibition, the extensive Zollverein site invites visitors to explore, complemented by cafés, guided tours and impressive architecture. Visitors to the museum should plan enough time to take in the variety of exhibits at their leisure.
A highlight in the annual calendar is the Red Dot Design Awards ceremony, which traditionally takes place in Essen. This is where designers, companies and industry representatives from all over the world come together. The award ceremony is followed by the Designers' Night - a celebration in the museum itself, where the award-winning products are presented to the public for the first time in an atmospheric setting.

in 2025, the ICONIC HOME vase collection won the Red Dot Design Award. The collection impressed with its clear design language, the special depth effect of the surfaces and the sustainable production using the 3D printing process from bio-based PLA. The award is associated with inclusion in the Red Dot Design Museum exhibition: selected exhibits from ICONIC HOME will be on display in Essen until mid-2026.
In addition, the collection also appears in the Red Dot Design Yearbook, which is internationally recognized as a reference work for outstanding product design.
